Winter in Whistler

Our time to shine

Whistler has long been a staple in the North American ski scene. Despite negative press and corporatization brought on by Vail’s acquisition of the resort in 2016, it remains one of the top ski destinations in the world. The terrain, snow, and access make these mountains a must-visit for anyone who is serious about skiing.

Winter Pros:

  • The terrain is unmatched anywhere in the world

  • Snowstorms deliver more often than not and you will ski the deepest powder of your life

  • Grooming has been greatly improved over the last several years - and we have great groomers

  • The views and alpine terrain will take your breath away if it’s your 1st or 1000th time here.

Winter Cons:

  • Yes, it does get extremely busy on weekends, holidays, and powder days. Lines of 1+ hour are not uncommon.

  • The weather can be very unpredictable - expect rain, be happy if you don’t get it.

  • If you don’t plan ahead, it will be prohibitively expensive

Top Tips

  1. Goretex, goretex, goretex.

  2. Buy a pass product ahead of time. You’ve probably seen the ticket window prices… don’t be the fool who actually pays full pop

  3. Avoid showing up at any base lift between 8:30 and 10:30 on weekends. Be there early or stay in bed.

  4. Try to travel on off-times to avoid traffic lines, parking lines, lift lines, and lunch lines.

  5. Start your day with the group you want to be with. It is tough to meet up with people during the day without sacrificing a big part of your day.

  6. Check the weather and forecast

  7. Stay in bounds unless you are with someone who knows where they are going

  8. Hazards are generally well marked, but pay attention. “Cliff area” typically isn’t an invitation to fun terrain, it’s a warning that you’re about to call ski patrol

  9. Have ski patrol’s number in your phone. I keep it in my “favourites”: 604-935-555
